The Dreams of Wine Come True: The Story of Lyons Vineyard
We wanted to take a moment to share with you the story of Lyons Vineyard and how it has come to be. Our love for wine has always been there, but life and our careers took us in different directions. However, we never gave up on our dream to eventually fulfill that passion.
Rewind to our early adult-hood: Skye’s father was a Vineyard Manager and Skye spent summers working the bottling line, or walking the vineyards in the early daylight hours with his dad. Sarah spent years studying the world of wine through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) eventually earning her Level 4 Diploma in Wines & Spirits of the World. We both have held onto the dream of establishing a place that matters and creates memories, a vineyard that pays tribute to the legacy of Skye’s dad and connects to the future of our son Wylder.
In 2017, we were lucky enough to secure a beautiful piece of property in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country with a couple acres of established vines. Since then, we've been hard at work trying to turn it into a viable vineyard and get the business off the ground. We found an amazing vineyard manager who helped us with planting more vines, focusing on organic farming, and improving the health of the plants and overall ecosystem. And today we are proud to say that we have about 5 acres of producing vines.
We've been blessed to work with some amazing winemakers in the valley who have produced truly exceptional wines from the grapes grown on our property. We're thrilled to continue providing grapes for these premier cuvées. But this year, we'll be taking our love of wine to the next level as we start making our very own wine label as well.
We are excited and nervous to move Lyons Vineyard forward into the next chapter. Now that we've started making wine, there's no turning back! However, we are certain that this is a passion worth pursuing.
